Level 2 Diploma in Countryside and Environment
Mitchell White studied the Level 2 Diploma in Countryside and Environment in 2022/2023.
Mitchell has shared some of his experiences about his time on the course:
What did you learn on this course?
During this course the knowledge gained has been very beneficial, this varies from tasks like woodland management and surveying. For example, a couple of our chestnut trees had sadly fallen down on the farm, using my knowledge gained from this course I was able to safely survey these trees to make sure there was no harm to wildlife in the process of removing them off of a crop. The help and advice my tutor has given me, also gave me inspiration and ideas to research information both on the VLE and online, to better my own knowledge.
A great skill I have kept with me from this course is learning to be independent during tasks carried out. Along with everything I have learnt, this course has also helped me build confidence with interviews, whether that is to pursue a career in being a park ranger or a career in agriculture. My tutor’s advice and encouragement really helped me move forwards, especially when I found myself stalling late in the course, my tutor helped me to re-think my approach and catch up again.
What did you enjoy most about this course?
I have to say, during this course I had most fun doing my surveys. When I started this course, I had very little knowledge on surveying or different habitat types. Using the resources on the VLE I was able to have a much better understanding of how surveys are performed. With lots of practice and fun trips out to different habitats and revision I was able to use many different techniques on these surveys.
