Towerwood Vets are a busy first opinion vets based in north Leeds, established for over forty years. They are looking to recruit a new veterinary care assistant (VCA) apprentice.

As an apprentice, you’ll get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

Duties include:

  • Handling and restraint of patients
  • Patient husbandry - feeding/exercise/grooming
  • Assist the vet and nurse with patient care
  • Prepare equipment and areas for surgery/procedures
  • Running lab samples
  • Cleaning and disinfection of areas
  • Preparing the cleaning and sterilisation of equipment
  • Storage of drugs and consumables
  • Regular reception work and telephone answering
Annual wage: £13,312 to £23,795.20 a year Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)
Training course: Level 2 Apprenticeship Animal Care and Welfare Assistant provided by The College of Animal Welfare via online/distance learning and taking 14 - 20 months to complete.
Hours: 40 hours per week. Shifts varying between 8am-8pm with a rotation of Saturday. Days TBC. Mainly based at the Cookridge Surgery with occasional shifts at the Greengates Clinic.
Possible start date: Monday 3 February
Duration: 1 year 2 months
